Geocache Description:

This is a fairly compact multi-cache in the Little Bridges series which I first had the pleasure of experiencing in England and wanted to bring back to Northern Ireland. The Little Bridge in question is in the environs of St Finlough's Catholic Church, a short drive outside the nearby village of Ballykelly. Please read the cache description carefully and it will necessitate you going onto the roads so be careful. Keep a tight eye on any younger geocachers please.

St Finlough's Catholic Church stands on the high ground above the Foyle Valley with spectacular and sweeping views of the river, the Donegal Hills and to the east Binevenagh Mountain. The current building was constructed in 1849 and the grounds run down into a small valley, home to a gurgling river and the Little Bridge of this geocache's title.

The cache is a multi which should necessitate you crossing the bridge at least twice. Take a moment to enjoy both the sight and the sound of the rushing waters which I always find very peaceful. The multi is in four stages and the coordinates listed on the cache page are for the location of the first part. This is also located right beside the public car-park. The various cache stages are outside the Church grounds or at its boundary and I would ask that all cachers be respectful during their time around the Church as it is a very active place of worship. None of the cache stages are placed in close proximity to the actual Church building. I would suggest the cache is best done outside normal periods of worship.

Each stage takes you to the next providing either a set of coordinates or in the case of stage three, a physical clue to stage four. You need to be observant as you go about the first two stages. Then be sure to take in all the information that stages three provides. How you do this is up to you!

Quite a lot of work has gone into this so please put back all the different stages as found and especially the one at stage three. Do not try to tackle it at its location. I would advise you to take it back the short walk to your car as it will take a few minutes to work out and your car boot may just be the spot. When finished please pack it up carefully and make sure it is all safe.

The final cache has only room for a log and please bring your own pen/pencil.

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast, Damian from Winter Foxes has created and updates a list of cachers who has found 10 or more little bridges and can be found here, if you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan on stanthews@aol.com and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xx then name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to Damian’s list.
