Nicknamed "Dirty Mary" for her smokestacks, the Mary Disston started as a mail steamer between Tampa and Brandenton. She was later owned by the Orange Belt Railroad. In 1892, she caught fire while moored at Gulfport. The Disston drifted into the bay, burned to the waterline, and sank.
