Geocache Description:

Howth holds a special place in my heart – I grew up on an island and being close to the sea keeps me sane.  To live in a capital city but have this on your doorstep is amazing.  When I have free time I’ll often head here to take in the sandy beach, or cliffs, or market, or pubs, or fish shops, or restaurants, or fish&chip shops, or ice-cream parlours, or museums,….

The Wall & The Cache

OK – I say lost – it’s not.  It’s still here but a large part of it is no longer used as it was - as you will see on this multi.

Head to the given co-ordinates.  Here you will find a slipway which has been closed off with fence panels and gates.

A – Please note the number of panels used to form the fence on the long side  - Call this A

B – Please note the number of panels used to form the fence on the short side – Call this B

Now, if you look towards the East Pier (where the toilet block is) you will see a nice wall forming the harbour.  Turn around and look towards the West pier….. you will see that same design of harbour wall but well….inland….. The area with the playground, yacht club and car parking is sitting on reclaimed land.  The wall you see is the line of the old harbour wall before it was in infilled in the mid 1980s.

Now head towards N53 23.282 W006 04.113.  If you walk inland of the wall you are walking on the original harbourside. The wall today provides ample seating for people (many eating their fish&chips or ice-creams) and you’ll often find children or dogs walking along it….would they have been so brave with the original drop to the sea there?

The feature that you arrive at was where you would have found a set of steps to take you down to the muddy/sandy strip of land beside the sea!

C – Please note the number of courses of brickwork that form the wall - Call this C

D – Please note the number of L shaped capping stones – Call this D

E – Please note the total number of capping stones – Call this E

Now it’s time to find the final…..so time for some simple maths.

Please head to N53 23.(B+D)(3*B)(2*D)    W006 04.(A-{2*D})(D)(E-C)

Once at GZ you are looking for a magnetic nano.  Please be careful when searching – this is an area that can have lots of muggles passing by – especially on a sunny Sunday afternoon when the DART arrives ……and please be careful with your fingers - the old metal is a tad rusty and may contain sharp edges. If the magnet has accummulated any rust I'd love it if you could give it a clean before replacing it.

Congratulations to FITZET on being the FTF on this cache.
