CV Battleship – G2 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Wis Kid: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Chippewa Valley Geocaching Battleship game! This series has been hidden around the Chippewa Valley and is based on the Battleship game published by Milton Bradley. Each traditional cache has been given a letter/number combo, which represents the spaces on a Battleship board. That means that there are 100 caches in this series, along with the 5 ship mystery caches and one ultimate final mystery cache!

Feel free to find as many, or as few, of these caches as you like. If you are hoping to find the 6 mystery caches of the series, you will need to make note of the cards inside, indicating if your find was a "hit" or a "miss". If you are lucky enough to find a "hit" while you are out sailing the high seas of the Chippewa Valley, you should also make note of which ship you hit and the partial coordinates inside for the final mystery cache.

Just like sinking a ship in the Battleship board game, you will need to find all of the caches that represent each letter/number combo for that ship. You may end up needing to find all 100 caches in the series to get those numbers; or you may end up getting lucky, depending on the caches that you find. The ships in this series are....

  • Patrol Boat = 2 hits (or finds)
  • Destroyer = 3 hits (or finds)
  • Submarine = 3 hits (or finds)
  • Battleship = 4 hits (or finds)
  • Aircraft Carrier = 5 hits (or finds)

If you are an amazing geocacher, you will be able to conquer the high seas of the Chippewa River and find the ultimate prize: The Chippewa Valley Battleship Final!

This series has been hidden with a little bit of everything in mind. There are caches for hikers, PNG's, some with slightly challenging terrain and some with more challenging urban camouflage. So seek the ones that look interesting to you, or seek them all, but we hope that you at least enjoy yourselves!

Important information about the Oakwood Mall area caches. The caches in the area of the Oakwood Mall are not just Park and Grab caches and the difficulty rating will reflect that. Parking to access these caches will be on ‘Private’ business property. Do not park in nearby business parking lots, especially during business hours. Permission has been obtained from Oakleaf Medical on their overflow lot east of their building Northwest of the mall. The coordinates for this parking location are N44°46.667 - W091°26.630. This is adjacent to a great trail along around Bullis Pond. During my ventures out here, I have observed deer, geese, and other wildlife. This area is one of the many great things I love about geocaching. Hidden natural treasures. Additional parking to access many of the other caches is available at a city park across Golf Rd. on Oakwood Hills Parkway. N44°46.235 - W091°26.650. Ideally you will get in some pretty good walks going for these caches.

The caches in the area of the Oakwood Mall are a combination of regular size to Nano caches. Many of the caches may be in unique containers, some of which I have actually never encountered but I have imagined or have seen something that would make a unique cache. TOTT will be needed for some of the caches. Please, please, please respect the property of the nearby businesses. The clues I will give for all of these caches is what is unusual or doesn’t belong here. Some may not be Winter Friendly, some may be quite Winter Friendly, after all they are being placed by a Giant. Any caches in/on Boulevard vegetation will be on the ground or easily accessible without disturbing the vegetation. Too many times when I have been caching, I see trails that appear to have been left by herds of animals and I hope that is not the case with these caches.
