Errinundra 4 - Parking / where the most rain falls
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This is the best spot to park to do the Rooty break loop via Goonmirk rocks and Coast Range Rd.
Coast Range Rd is closed. The roads to the left are closed seasonally at this gate. It is possible to drive up here to park and grab some of the caches and then just walk the ones on Coast Range Rd. For doing the full loop of 6kms the gradient is easier to go left as Rooty Break Trail is steep in places.
For the walk you will need to take extra precautions as mentioned at gc6yy60. Be especially aware of snakes, they aren't used of humans and won't move. I guess that would change if you stood on one, but they are more then happy to less you pass by. I saw 6 snakes in the cut grass on Coast Range Rd, the day I did the placement of the caches. This was on a cloudy day, so I fully expect that would stay away from open areas most of the time, but you never know with wild animals.
When the government actually did science in our forest areas, this was found to be the area that had the most rainfall. Even more then the Otways, but this area doesn't receive the attention due to the lack of human inhabitants. Just back on the main rd was an area that was logged in the year 2000. As you can see the regrowth has been very slow, even with aerial seeding and conditions created perfect for Eucalypt growth. or say we are told. But it is not suited to all locations.
