Just outside the village, pause for a moment at Val d’Iré, a scenic location at the water’s edge and an ideal place for a stroll.
In the village centre at Iré-le-Sec, eagle-eyed architecture fans will spot two cast-iron 19th century statues of Saint Paul and Saint Peter which seem to be guarding the village from the steps of Saint Hubert’s church. A glimpse behind one of the statues reveals a stunning Neoclassical stone monument in the cemetery – the Dumailly chapel.
Leaving the village, a former 19th century mill, known as the “Forest Mill” lies deep in the valley, in a secluded spot beside a stream. In days gone by, it supplied the residents of Iré-le-Sec with flour.
