Mrs Scothog: Thank you for coming, everyone!
The Edinburgh Geological Society are very happy with how it all went, so we might do it again next year!

Geocache Description:

11am-3pm Saturday 7 October

Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat contain some spectacular geology in the heart of the city. There are more than 10 EarthCaches in the immediate area for you to explore. If you are new to EarthCaching, volunteers will be on hand to tell you more and point you in the right direction.

Part of the Earthcache Edinburgh weekend in conjunction with the Edinburgh Geological Society. An event in Holyrood Park, beside Arthur's Seat. Come by the Edinburgh Geological Society tent for refreshments, discussions, introduction to geology of the area and an introduction to earthcaching. Volunteers will be on hand throughout the event times.

At the heart of the city, Arthur's Seat is also at the heart of the study of geology, with one of the unconformities identified by James Hutton, as well as spectacular igneous and sedimentary features. Nearby, modern architecture incorporates the geological story, while even the pavements bear fossils (new EC!). And that's only some of them. Away from earthcaches, Holyrood park also offers traditional geocaches, multis, puzzles and an epic Wherigo based on the dinosaurs of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. Never again will you view Salisbury Crags without looking for pterodactyls!

To complete your earthcaching weekend, there are events at
Friday 6 October - Hanover Street - 6:30pm-8pm - GC729N6 - Come for an introduction to Edinburgh's geology, ask questions, get ideas, earthcache chat...
Sunday 8 October - Bus tour to East Lothian - 10am-5pm (approx) and Barns Ness - 12 noon - 1pm - GC729MB - your opportunity to take in the coastal cliffs, bays and beaches of East Lothian and the Borders with a guide from the Edinburgh Geological Society, stopping at a minimum of five earthcaches including the world famous Siccar Point. There is a geocaching event at Barns Ness between 12 and 1 that the bus tour will intersect. To book tour tickets at £15pp, click here. If you would like to come on the bus, YOU MUST BOOK. For more details, see the event page.
