“Three groups of people live in every village.
First, those you could see walking around, eating, sleeping and working.
Second were the ancestors…
The third people are those waiting to be born.”
― Alex Haley, Roots: The Saga of an American Family
One of my favorite jobs in HS was mowing the town cemeteries. The stones in the old section always fascinated me; there are Presidential relatives here, (as well as a lot of mine) and a letterbox too! Wander around and check out the history.
Rutherford B. Hayes, nineteenth president of the United States, was the fifth child born to Rutherford and Sophia Birchard Hayes. He was born October 4, 1822, at Delaware, Ohio, about two months after the death of his father. His mother Sophia was born and raised in Wilmington, and was married here. Her parents are buried in this section of the cemetery.
