How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Reward your hike with a geocache before driving home.

9/14/20 - Cache is no longer a short flat hike into the desert. It was not welcome there.
5/27/20 - Cache is now a short flat hike into the desert. Watch for all the normal desert hazards. Please replace as found. No swag please.

We were surprised that there wasn't a geocache here at the trailhead, so we thought we'd place one.

Watch for muggles and practice stealthy geocaching. This cache is at the far end of the parking lot, so most activity will be at the trailhead on the other end. Please return the cache exactly as found.

Note: When we placed the cache on July 4th, 2017, we were surprised that the entrance gate was closed. The exit gate was open, but **WARNING** - don't drive through the exit because of TIRE SPIKES. If the parking lot is closed, you can park about 400 feet to the west along Euclid Avenue, and walk a short distance to the cache.

Hiking is optional.

If you bring a dog, remember that dogs are not allowed on the trails when it's 100 degrees or warmer. Always wear good footwear when hiking and bring LOTS and LOTS of water and trail food so you don't dehydrate. Try to hike early in the day when it's coolest.

The Mormon Trailhead, located at the base of South Mountain near 24th Street and Valley View Avenue (south of Baseline Road), offers a short but challenging hike for those wanting to connect with the National Trail or Mormon Loop.  From this junction, hikers may proceed east on Mormon Loop toward Pima Canyon, or south and then west on the National Trail to access Fat Man’s Pass, Hidden Valley, and the Natural Tunnel.
Distance: 1.2 miles (to Mormon Loop Junction), 1.5 miles to National trail junction
Difficulty:  Moderate to difficult
Elevation Change: Approximately 1,000 feet.
