SOLOMON BONNEAU – CANADA150

Born in Manitoba in 1888, Solomon Bonneau arrived in Gravelbourg in 1918.

After he was called to the Saskatchewan Bar, Solomon pursued a  career as a lawyer and, while he did that, he also acquired a printing plant in Gravelbourg, in 1927. He directed  the publication and printing of many Francophone newspapers in Saskatchewan, such as l’Étoile de Gravelbourg and La Voix Catholique.

Solomon Bonneau also worked as a correspondent for several media outlets, such as the Canadian Press. He was very involved in his community, as well, notably serving as Mayor of Gravelbourg from 1945 to 1952 and as President of theAssociation des Commissaires franco-canadiens (Association of Franco-Canadian School Trustees).

Après avoir passé son barreau en Saskatchewan, Solomon, tout en poursuivant sa carrière d’avocat, fait l’acquisition d’une imprimerie à Gravelbourg en 1927. Il dirigera la publication et l’impression de nombreux journaux francophones de la Saskatchewan, tels que l’Étoile de Gravelbourg et La Voix Catholique.

Solomon Bonneau sera aussi correspondant pour plusieurs médias, comme la Presse canadienne. Il est aussi très impliqué dans sa communauté : il sera, entre autres, maire de Gravelbourg entre 1945 et 1952 et président de l’association des Commissaires franco-canadiens.
