Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide Geocaching community and is a way for the geocaching community to take care of the areas we enjoy while geocaching. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!
You'll get a smiley for your participation in a CITO event and it also has it's own icon. Though of course, the real reward lies in giving back to our environment! :D
Along side a local group Royal Canal Clean-up (who are very enthusiastic for us to join them!), we will be supporting in picking up litter/rubbish/trash along the Royal Canal starting from Castleknock Train station (starting coordinates). We will meet at 10.45am and finish up at 1pm near Ashtown Train station. There will be other groups on the canal that day, so make sure to meet at Castleknock on time, and look for me!
What to Bring:
The Royal Canal clean group will provide basic litter picking equipment. However, it wouldn't do any harm to come prepared to ensure there is enough for everyone. This could include Garden Gloves or a Litter Picker (if you have one).
It is also advised to wear appropriate sturdy footwear (as this is a canal towpath) and depending on the weather that day, a rain jacket or suncream. Please note there will be nowhere to store bags whilst we work.
Staying hydrated is also important!
There is plenty of public transport options (we are meeting at a train station afterall), which is recommended as it is better for the environment :)
If coming by car, there is no parking at Castleknock but you could park at Navan Road parkway, or Coolmine and get the train/walk to the event (leaving enough time to get there). Parking charges may apply at those locations.
By participating in this event, you de facto agree that your participation is at your own risk and neither the event host, icklelego, nor Royal Canal Clean-up or any association will be responsible for any accident, injury or loss to people or their belongings while participating in this event. Please exercise due caution at all times.
