In 1904, settlers left the Côtes-du-Nord region of Brittany and bravely set out for Canada, at the urging of Abbé Le Floch.

The Breton priest had already been to Canada, in 1903, and had met the Bishop of the Diocese of Prince Albert, who asked him to recruit Britons to populate Western Canada.

On May 21, 1904, the pioneers arrived in the region they called La Plaine, the future site of the community of Saint-Brieux.

Saint-Brieux was founded by sixty pioneers in 1904. Today, about 600 people live in the village on the shores of Lake Lenore.

The village is still prosperous today, thanks in part to a farm equipment manufacturing company that employs more than 1,000 people. Cereal crops are also grown in the area.
