HERCULES, FOUNDER OF BARCELONA

According to mythology, Barcelona was founded by Hercules, the Roman hero, the son of the god Zeus and the deadly Alcmena. It is estimated that it was founded around the fourteenth century BC, about 400 years before the founding of Rome.

He did it with the help of his stepbrother, god of the trade, the arts and messenger of the gods. Who knows if it was by chance that Hercules founded Barcelona or because the gods wanted it ...

Everything started 3500 years ago, when Euristeo usurped the throne of Hercules in Argolida and to keep Hercules far away entrusted him with twelve works, of which he trusted did not leave alive But at the end of the fourth of these works, Hercules postpone them to go help his friend Jasón, who had a similar problem to his. So Jason to recover the Yolcos throne, had to prove his value, finding the Golden Fleece.

For this reason Hercules was united to the Argonauts expedition who with a fleet formed by nine boats, crossed the Mediterranean looking for Golden Fleece. But when they were near to the Catalan coast, a great storm dispersed the fleet and one of the boats was lost.

Jason asked Hercules to look for it and after an intense search he found the remains of the shipwreck of the "barca nona" (boat ninth) at the foot of Montjuic mountain. The place seemed so welcoming to Hercules that he decided to stay and found a new city to which they would give the name of the boat that had brought them there, Barcanona, which would eventually be called Barcelona.

A good place to get to know our hero and how he arrived here, it is in the center of the city. The reference coordinates will take you to the bronze figure made by the catalan Antoni Parera, who emphasizes strength as one of the Hercules virtues. Forward and close by you will be able to see a representation of the "barca nona" of Frederic Mares.

After, you have to find the monument that the city dedicated to him, in memory of the first proof that Hercules surpassed, killing the Lion of Nemea. It is a work by Josep Moret from 1797 and it is the oldest public monument in the city.

From the pedestal top, Hercules is wishing to jump to the ground and run down the street to meet his stepbrother, who at 1.37 roman miles, is guarding an entrance as the god of commerce.

Your goal is to discover who the Hercules stepbrother was and where is it. As proof that you have found, you must send to me before to log, the following photographs:

Selfie with Hercules in the initial coordinates.

Selfie with Hercules and the Lion of Nemea.

Selfie with Hercules stepbrother.

In the Selfies, it is not necessary that you appear. It is enough with any object that can be identified in the three selfies.

Please, when you registering it, you don’t append photos that can serve as a clue.

Enjoy your research and good luck ¡¡¡
