Obviously Edinburgh has The Castle but there are also several other castles nearby and this one, Craigmillar, is my favourite of all of them. The views from here are amazing, the castle has a proper adventurous feel to it, especially for kids, and its history is interesting too. So I wanted to place my virtual reward here so that other people could discover Edinburgh's best castle. It belongs to Historic Scotland and the wikipedia page is here.
To claim this virtual, you'll need to take two photos and answer these questions. Upload your photos with your log and either send me a message through the website or email me with your answers to claim.
1. The coordinates are for the information board at the top of the tower. According to this board, how far is Craigmillar from Edinburgh?
2. How many points of interest are numbered on the picture of the view?
3. Take a photo from here of you, your GPS or another possession of yours with Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh Castle behind.
4. Find the "empty plinth" below elsewhere in the castle and take your second photo here with someone or something standing on it."
I'm sorry that there's an entry fee but it is a brilliant castle and well worth the small charge. Please check opening hours before your visit. There are explorer bags for kids to borrow and an activity room as well as the castle to look at, climb on and it's fab for hide and seek. Dogs on leads are allowed.
Many thanks to Historic Environment Scotland for permission to place this cache.
Virtual Reward - 2017/2018
This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between August 24, 2017 and August 24, 2018. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. Learn more about Virtual Rewards on the Geocaching Blog.
I felt very privileged to get a virtual reward and want to dedicate it to the amazing friends I've made through caching: Mrs Scothog and the Scotkits, Original A1, Peedieduchess, Chemies, den sure kalkun and Free Timers. Thanks for all the fun times and here's to many more!
