In the doomsday book of 1086 Durrington is listed as two separate manors but it was extended to include the northern halves of Tarring and Broadwater parishes in 1902 when the rest of those parishes became part of Worthing borough. In this area there were lavender fields right up to the Arundel Road. Imagine the aromatic splendour from such a vast array of scented purple flowers in late summer.
