The trip starts in a small, beautiful village called Hinterthal, in the Austrian mountains.
The journey starts at the parking lot. From there, you go to the village's church (N47° 24.684 E12° 58.722). Then you start the real climb. It starts as an asphalted road, then it’s a dirt road and later the trail will be all gone. The next waypoint (N47° 24.818 E12° 58.655) is where the trail starts. From here you can see the final destination. Follow the signs indicating “Sonnleitenweg 30”. The Sonnleiten is the mountain you’re standing on. At the end of the road, N47° 25.383 E12° 58.225, you have to go steep up the hill (logged wood) where you'll find a small trail to a cabin with a bench and some water (N47° 25.701 E12° 58.451). Here you can take a rest and eat something you brought. The summit is now only 1.2 km away. This was the easy part!
Directly behind the cabin you have go steep up the hill, through the meadow. The trail is hardly visible here. Now comes the more dangerous part. Take your time, and make sure you don’t end up down there. There’s a small trail with stones. Watch your step, a stone could be lose and start rolling. The trail ends at the T-split, where you have a nice view of the Hochkönig summit. Turn right, to the Ameisenköpfe (Ants' heads). On top (N47° 25.886 E12° 58.633), you need to determine the altitude with your GPS. From the altitude, you can find out the coordinates of the cache:
If the altitude is 1915 meters, the cache location is N47° 25.897 E12° 58.642.
If the altitude is 1925 meters, the cache location is N47° 25.948 E12° 58.639.
If the altitude is 1935 meters, the cache location is N47° 25.865 E12° 58.614.
If the altitude is 1945 meters, the cache location is N47° 25.905 E12° 58.626.
In the cache is a small angel called Aloisius. He is the guardian angel of the wine, which you can drink when you get back.
Enjoy the beautiful sight at good weather, and make sure you get down safe!
When you get back to the road, N47° 25.383 E12° 58.225, you can decide to continue going downhill through the woods. Due to logged wood the trail is a bit difficult to find.
