DEBDEN – CANADA150

The first Francophone settlers arrived in the Debden area around 1910. Most of them came from the Quebec's Eastern Townships and from the United States.

Prairie life at that time was not necessarily easy but the settlers were hard-working and they soon had a parish, a school, and a post office.

Today, many families in the region are of Francophone heritage or are proud Fransaskois. Debden is considered to be a bilingual community with several services and groups working for the benefit of Francophones. For example, the Comité culturel fransaskois de Debden promotes activities for the region's Francophones and Francophiles.

Debden and the surrounding area are recognized as one of the province's main tourist regions.
