Domremy was founded by a Canadian government immigration officer in France, Auguste Bodard, and one of his friends, Achille Godin. Bodard wanted to create a village that would bear the name of Jeanne d'Arc's birthplace in France. The town of Domremy was, therefore, founded in 1895.

In the years that followed, several families from Brittany and elsewhere in France  came and settled in the area. In its early days, the village was located two miles north of its current location. The parish was relocated in 1915 to be closer to the new railway.

Today, more than a hundred people live in Domremy, the majority of whom are of Francophone descent.
