How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
"Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!"
We'll be doing our bit to clean up where other hikers sometimes don't - the Federation Hut campground area near Mt Feathertop. Please note this is not a drive-to CITO - despite the popularity of the location, it requires a significant hike to get to.
Make your way however you choose, hiking in from Diamantina Hut or up from Harrietville, and join us to socialize and clean up at the same time. And should you find any litter such as discarded water bottles along the track to the hut, please extend the CITO efforts to those trails too.
Friday 16th February 2018, from 18h00 to 19h00.
This later event time is still during daylight, and allows more people the required time to get to the CITO.
The Federation Hut campground area.
We'll be cleaning a 300m radius around the campground.
(Please extend the CITO efforts to include any litter you may find along the tracks to and from GZ.)
Fortunately there won't be any old tyres, mattresses or couches to carry out. Simply empty bottles and packaging which less considerate hikers have left around the area.
Some cachers will be camping overnight after the event. Please note that Federation Hut is for refuge only, so if you are staying overnight, you should be self-sufficient with the usual overnight-hike provisions and camping gear.
** Please note **
Due to the location and season in the high country, it should also be noted that this event may be cancelled at the last minute. Reasons for this may include, but are not limited to…
- Fire/s in the local area
- Closure of the forest area by Parks Victoria
- Extreme weather (eg. temperatures above 35 degrees)
- Severe, Extreme or Code Red Fire Danger Rating
- Predictions of possibilities of any of the above.
If you intend on coming, please log your Will Attend. Any notifications regarding cancellations will be posted immediately as an announcement to this page. That way all teams who have logged a Will Attend will be notified of any possible changes straight away.
(No hints available.)
