Geocache Description:

This geocache is #1 in a series of caches entitled "The Secret Life of Larval Fish: A Geocaching Adventure."

About this cache: The deep submarine canyon of Monterey Bay is home to many strange looking fish. Some of these deep-dwelling animals produce equally odd larvae! Visit the cache to see if you can match larvae to their adult forms, and learn more about Monterey Bay's canyon. This cache is located on the back patio of the Seymour Center; enter through the Center or from the path along the coast (just tell any employee that asks that you're just there to find the cache!).

About the series: Did you know that many species of fish have a larval stage that looks very different from the adult form? Fish larvae vary hugely in how they look, how they behave, and how they interact with their parents. Come explore the wide world of baby fish!

  1. Visit the Seymour Marine Discovery Center to obtain a geocaching passport, or visit to print out your own: Admission is only required if you would like to receive the prize at the end.
  2. Find each of the five caches. At each cache, answer the question on your passport using information in the container, and stamp your passport.
  3. Return to the Seymour Center after finding all 5 caches to obtain a commemorative wooden nickel. Please note -- the Seymour Center is closed on Mondays.

Please remain on paths -- protect our native plants. Cache placed with permission from the Seymour Marine Discovery Center. Funding provided by the Western Division of the American Fisheries Society.
