Geocache Description:

War Memorial #417 ~ Iveston

The war memorial is a Grade II listed structure because of its historical and Architectural interest. It is in the shape of a Celtic cross, and stands on the village green to the South of the road through the village.

It was unveiled on Good Friday, 2nd April 1920.

Inside the gate is a stone boulder which legend suggests was used as a platform by a missionary preacher called St. Ives. The stone originally stood at the end of the village, but was moved to its present position when the war memorial was built. It is believed that Iveston was named after this stone which became known as St. Ives' Stone.
