Tafoni Panorâmico / Panoramic Tafoni

De forma a poder fazer o registo desta earthcache, deverá responder correntamente às seguintes questões e enviar, posteriormente, as respostas para o meu e-mail:

1) Nas coordenadas publicadas poderá ser observado um tafoni, de dimensões consideráveis. Qual é a sua altura aproximada?

2) Suponha que o tafoni está no seu local de origem. Indique, das opções a baixo, qual ou quais se encaixam em relação à direção de propagação das ondas do mar:

Norte-Sul
Este-Oeste
Oeste-Este
Sul-Norte

3) A meteorização e erosão nesta rocha foi tão intensa que acabou por abrir um buraco, de um lado ao outro. Indique qual é a sua forma e o comprimento do eixo maior.

4) O Santo António, estátua do tafoni, está a olhar na direção sul-norte. Nesse alinhamento, a 24 metros das coordenadas publicadas, no waypoint 2, pode ser observado outro tafoni. Neste, as pequenas cavidades estão mais presentes nas laterais ou em cima?

5) Tire uma foto sua ou de algo que o identifique, a fim de comprovar a sua passagem pelo local. No entanto, tenha em atenção que não deve ser possível estimar as respostas através da sua análise.

In order to register this earthcache, you should answer the following questions and send the answers to my e-mail:

1) In the published coordinates a taffon of considerable dimensions may be observed. What is your approximate height?

2) Suppose the tafoni is in its place of origin. Indicate, from the options below, which one or which fit in relation to the direction of propagation of the sea waves:

North South
East West
West-East
South North

3) The weathering and erosion in this rock was so intense that it finally opened a hole, from one side to the other. Indicate the shape and length of the major axis.

4) Santo António, statue of tafoni, is looking south-north. In this alignment, 24 meters from the published coordinates, another tafoni can be observed. In this, are the small cavities more present on the sides or on top?

5) Take a photo of yourself or the GPS to verify your location. However, please note that it should not be possible to estimate the responses through your analysis.

Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Guia

Situa-se no cimo de uma montanha com aproximadamente 150 metros. É constituído por vários terraços e pela Capelinha da Senhora da Guia, a quem o povo de Belinho tem uma grande devoção. A capela foi construída em 1970, mandada construir pelo falecido Sr. Manuel Abreu, em substituição da primitiva capela. É um local com vista para o Oceano Atlântico, e contém inúmeros monumentos.
Este santuário também é constituído por um escadório com, aproximadamente, 383 degraus. O acesso ao Santuário pode ser feito pelo referido escadório, ou por uma estrada em alcatrão.

No local da cache, poderão ver umas belas paisagens. Não deixem de visitar as earthcaches vizinhas "Que caos! | Senhora da Guia", "Há filões no Santuário! | Senhora da Guia" e a tradicional "Senhora da Guia [Belinho-Esposende]"

Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Guia

It is located on top of a mountain with approximately 150 meters. It is constituted by several terraces and by the Chapel of Senhora da Guia, a people of Belinho with a great devotion. The chapel was built in 1970, built by the late Mr. Manuel Abreu, in replacement of the original chapel. It is a place with views of the Atlantic Ocean, and contains numerous monuments.
This one also consists of a slave with approximately 383 steps. Access to the Sanctuary can be done by the said stairway, or by a road in tar.

No cache location, which can be seen with beautiful scenery. It does not stop visiting a neighbor of land "Que caos! | Senhora da Guia", "Há filões no Santuário! | Senhora da Guia" and a traditional "Senhora da Guia [Belinho-Esposende]"

O que são Tafoni?

Tafoni, de singular tafone, são pequenas crateras, semelhantes a cavernas, encontradas em rochas granulares como arenito , granito, calcário. Eles geralmente ocorrem em grupos que podem acenar uma encosta, um penhasco ou outra formação rochosa. Eles podem ser encontrados em todos os tipos de clima, mas são mais abundantes no litoral. Nas coordenadas publicadas na página da cache poderá ser observado um, de tamanho considerável, que deverá ser alvo de estudo para responder ao que é proposto nesta earthcache.

Como é formado?
Várias teorias foram apresentadas para explicar a formação de tafoni, no entanto a forma de intemperismo salino é a explicação mais comum.

Ocorre quando o sal se acumula na superfície de rochas permeáveis, como sedimentares (arenito, calcário...) e magmáticas (granito, basalto...), geralmente por ondas do mar, neblina ou vento. À medida que a água salgada evapora, esta deixa o sal para trás. O sal entra nos poros da rocha, onde cristaliza e empurra os poros, dilatando-os. Estes poros aumentados da rocha tornam-se suscetíveis a intempéries adicionais, incluindo os ciclos de secagem e congelamento-degelo. Depois de uma quantidade significativa de tempo, o intemperismo torna-se perceptível na forma de pequenas cavidades, que vão aumentando progressivamente.

Outras teorias tentam explicar a presença de tafoni em áreas costeiras. Alguns pesquisadores acreditam que, além do intemperismo salino, os moluscos e outras formas de vida marinha também podem iniciar o tafoni. Eles fazem isso criando pequenos buracos nas costas rochosas, onde se ligam e extraem minerais. O buraco cresce ao longo do tempo até que, eventualmente, o molusco ou outro organismo caia. O buraco é então deixado para os elementos, como vento, chuva e água das marés. Estes trabalham juntos para criar as formações do tafoni.

What are Tafoni?

Tafoni, of singular tafone, are small caves, similar to caves, found in granular rocks like sandstone, granite, limestone. They usually occur in groups that can wave a slope, a cliff or other rock formation. They can be found in all types of weather, but are more abundant on the coast. In the coordinates published in the page of the cache one can be observed one, of considerable size, that should be the object of study to respond to what is proposed in this earthcache.

How is it formed?
Several theories have been presented to explain the formation of tafoni, however the form of saline weathering is the most common explanation.

It occurs when salt accumulates on the surface of permeable rocks, such as sedimentary (sandstone, limestone ...) and magmatic (granite, basalt ...), usually by waves of the sea, mist or wind. As the salt water evaporates, it leaves the salt behind. The salt enters the pores of the rock, where it crystallizes and pushes the pores, dilating them. These increased rock pores become susceptible to additional weathering, including drying and freeze-thaw cycles. After a significant amount of time, the weathering becomes perceptible in the form of small cavities, which increase progressively.

Other theories try to explain the presence of tafoni in coastal areas. Some researchers believe that, in addition to saline weathering, mollusks and other marine life can also initiate tafoni. They do this by creating small holes in the rocky coasts, where they bind and extract minerals. The hole grows over time until eventually the mollusc or other organism falls. The hole is then left to the elements, such as wind, rain and tidal water. These work together to create tafoni formations.
