tRails Meandering North-Easterly
This is a brief kick off event for the tRails Meandering North-Easterly Geocache Rail Tour, remembering the places once served by the Manistee and Northeastern Railroad. At the close of the event you will be turned loose to begin your ride through North-West Michigan lumbering and railroad history.
The tRails Meandering North-Easterly geocache rail tour will take you to more than sixty places once served by the M&NE. The tour will take you through Manistee, Wexford, Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Crawford Counties. Collect and record information from each of the geocaches to earn a prize.
When: 9:00-10:00 AM, June 23rd, 2018
Where: Manistee County Historical Museum
Manistee County Historical Museum, 425 River St, Manistee, MI .
We will be at the museum one hour before its normal opening time. Everyone will be given the opportunity to tour the museum. While you are there, be sure to thank the staff for supporting our game.
Museum admission is: Adults - $3.00 | Families - $8.00 | Students - $1.00
There are plenty of places to eat nearby if you arrive early. Refreshments will not be served at the event, so please plan accordingly.
You will be provided with information about the tour geocaches at the event. Caches will be published later in the day.
Ticket to Manistee tour passports will be available at the event and at the museum after the event, while supplies last. A link to the passport will also be available on each cache page, once published.
There is parking available on River Street. Downtown Manistee should not be busy that time of the morning.
Please visit and support the host museum while you are here in Manistee and the Crawford County Historical Museum in Grayling (limited hours).
The tour will likely take you two full days to complete. There will be one or two daylight only caches to plan around. Accomodations are available in town as well as in Traverse City, and Grayling, the largest towns near the extremities of the tour. The caches will not be difficult and many or most will be winter friendly. Most caches (not all!) will be accessible by car, even in winter. There will be a few you will want to park and walk to, especially if you don't own 4WD.
This is the third geo rail tour put on by Silent Whistles. The first, Abandon Railroads of Newaygo County and second, tRails Along the Au Sable are still active.
We hope you enjoy "the ride"
