Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Pembina Walsh Historic Trail (PWHT). Earn and log a commemorative coin after finding five caches in each county! Fill out the PWHT Passport (downloading instruction in the description below) and submit it to receive your coin(s)! Our caches are located at the most interesting historical sites in Pembina and Walsh County in northeast North Dakota. This trail includes a number of gadget caches designed by Trycacheus.

Like many of the veterans who frequent the Novotny-Kachena American Legion Post 208 in the small North Dakota town of Pisek, a wall of the building tells the story of military veterans who have fought in this country's wars since the revolution. When a group of Pisek veterans decided it was time to honor its veterans, a couple of them began a driving tour to see what examples were out there. They came across a few murals painted on buildings in the town of Portland, ND. It was there they were introduced to the artist, Wanda Lee. They agreed to have her paint one mural on one wall representing 10 wars. She provided them with a sketch and they gave her the thumbs up. In three weeks, the mural was complete. (this text was taken from a Sept. 2008 article in the Grand Forks Herald, written by Kevin Bonham). T=Terain - 1; D=Difficulty - 2; S=Size - Small. Attributes: WINTER FRIENDLY. This cache is part of the PWHT. The trail is comprised of several geocaches placed at various historic sites in both Pembina and Walsh Counties and rewards are available to those visiting at least 5 geocaches in one or 5 in each county. Geocaches have been hidden in historical locations within each county. When you find a geocache, record the GC code, date, and the passport code from the actual geocache container. When you have found and recorded five (5) geocaches in a county, you can turn in your passport to receive that county’s commemorative coin. To document successful ""finds" of geocaches on the PWHT, you will need the passport, which can be downloaded at . This passport includes instructions for claiming the rewards.
