Geocache Description:

Turn off Highway 101 just south of milepost 182 on Cape Mountain Rd. Drive 3 miles to the Dry Lake trailhead.

The cache is located at the site of the former Cape Mountain Lookout Cabin. This L-4 ground cabin was built in 1932 to spot forest fires. Park at the Dry Lake trailhead and follow the Nelson Ridge trail to the first right turn. From there follow your GPSr and geosenses. It is a 6/10ths mile hike uphill on an old road closed to motorized traffic (it is however open to horses as it is a horse trailhead).

The originial cache was placed by tincuphunter and had 105 finds. Tincuphunter archived the original cache when he moved away and could no longer maintain it. We have resurrected this cache as it is one of the easiest in Section 2 of the Oregon Fire Lookout Challenge.

The original ammo can placed by tincuphunter is gone. We replaced it with a large nut jar, log and swag.

Don't forget to look for the benchmark while at the site too!

Happy caching!!
