This is my first cache hide - I hope you enjoy it!
Number 1161 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box.
The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.
Little Newcastle is where the famous pirate Barti Ddu was born in1682. There is a commemorative stone on the village green opposite his birthplace.
St Peter's church at the south end of the village green is worth a look as it has a beautiful set of modern stained glass windows detailing the life of Christ. Please visit and sign the visitor book!
What is now the village green (opposite gz) is where the "New Castle" was situated. Built in the 12th century by Adam de la Rupe who also built Roch castle it replaced the old castle to the north of the village. The "Little" was originally added to the name to distinguish the village from Newcastle Emlyn.
The old phone box has been adopted by the Community Council and it is hoped to kit it out as an information point at some time in the future. The post box was moved in November 2017 to this location from its original site outside the old Post Office at Manteg at the bottom end of the village.
The cache is a small clip-lock box. Please replace as found. Easy to find but wheelchair users and children might need help to retrieve/replace the cache.
