The Bandaran Mosque Kota Kinabalu (Masjid Bandaran Kota Kinabalu) here has unique historical background. If you take a closer look at the mosque, you will be able to see clearly the word 'SDA' or Seventh-day Adventist embedded in the walls of the mosque's towers. The history behind the mosque is extraordinary and meaningful as it was originally a SDA church and the design of its main building is still maintained and manned by the United Sabah Islamic Association (Usia).
Before the Second World War, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kota Kinabalu bought the land on a hill now located in town and built a church on it. Clear SDA texts made of glass bricks were built onto this building. Based on historical information, the church was bought by Usia in the 1960s and converted to a mosque while SDA church moved to another site in another part of Kota Kinabalu.
There are a lot of speculations on why the word SDA is left as it is on the wall of the mosque. You can google to find out for yourself.
