[EN] Sulfurous Springs
In the Ķemeri National Park and its surroundings there are more than 30 sulfurous springs that burst out of the landscape. The creation of sulfur is possible due to gypsum-rich soil layers and soil bacteria (Desulfovibrio desulfuricans). The dissolving effect of the acid bog water on the surface of the plaster leads to the creation of H2S gas (hydrogen sulfide), which easily dissolves in water, forming a weak acid. Where there are gaps in the ground, the water manages to escape, thus creating mineral water springs. When the sulfur compound is 10 mg/L or higher, the water is said to be useful for healing purposes. The water is both used externally in baths and orally as drinking water as well as for inhalation.

Ķemeru nacionālajā parkā un tā apkārtnē ir vairāk nekā 30 sēravoti, kas izplūst no pazemes. Sēra rašanās ir iespējama, pateicoties ar ģipsi bagātajiem augsnes slāņiem un augsnes baktērijām (Desulfovibrio desulfuricans). You can drink the water from the spring, though I do not recommend drinking the water from the pool.
