En paléobotanique, le genre Lepidodendron regroupe des lycopodes arborescentes fossiles, appartenant à l'ordre des Lycopodiales. La répartition stratigraphique s'étend du Dévonien au Carbonifère (-400 à -290 millions d'années)

Les roches où l’on trouve les plantes fossiles de la tranchée des malécots sont des cinérites principalement issues de l’accumulation de cendres volcaniques. Elles proviennent de volcans complètement disparus.

In paleobotany, Lepidodendron is composed of fossilized arboreal lycopods belonging to the order Lycopodiales. Stratigraphic distribution extends from Devonian to Carboniferous (-400 to -290 million years ago)
The rocks containing the fossil plants of the trench Malécots are cinerites mainly from the accumulation of volcanic ash. They come from completely extinct volcanoes. .
