Jabez Emmerson

Jabez Emmerson was born in 1894 in Bagworth - son of Alfred. They lived at 56 Vaughan Street. His father was a manager at Bagworth and then Ellistown Collieries. He studied at Ashby Grammar School, played cricket, married Bertha Black in 1918.  After the war he returned to Coalville and continued his job as a mining surveyor until 1924 when he became the manager of the Snibstone Colliery. He survived the war and died on 1st April 1980.

The images show Jabez in the exhibition.  He was created by Margaret and John as part of Ashby Arts festival .
First 50 Heroes The Coalville Heroes Series celebrates the first fifty volunteers from our area to take part in the Great War of 1914-18. Each geocache commemorates a real volunteer and describes his activities during the Great War. This cache was placed by First50 with kind permission of the landowner. The GAGB are helping to coordinate this series. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.
