This is one of several caches hidden on Antelope Island, and is
hidden just a short way up the Frary Peak-Mountain View trail on
the east side of the island. Back in pioneer days, Antelope Island
was first called "Porpoise Island" and later "Church Island".
Take the road south toward the Garr Ranch House and turn off at
the Frary Peak-Mountain View Trail sign. Park at the end of the
road. The hike is short: only .12 mile. Buena vistas to the east.
The cache is well concealed not far off the trail.
A sign near the trailhead says the area is closed between April
14 and May 23 for bighorn lambing season, so check ahead of time
(550-6165) for trail status if you come in the springtime. Also,
please be aware there are no dogs and no bikes allowed on the
trail. Park Rangers have requested all geocachers take care when
going off-trail to locate this cache. Avoid trampling the area
unnecessarily. Don't beat a path to and from the cache location and
the trail. Also, be sure to carefully replace the cache as well or
better than found.
Although the buffalo herds are generally (but not always)
downhill from this cache site, please heed the warning signs
regarding these animals. They are all around and are fun to
observe, but buffalo will charge if you venture too closely.
Although they move around at a leisurely pace and seem very docile,
don't take any chances. Unlike the deer at the Garr Ranch House,
the buffalo are NOT tame! Just keep your distance. Bring binoculars
if you want to see them up close.
Thanks and we'll cache-u-later!
