50 first heroes The Coalville Heroes series celebrates the first fifty volunteers from the Coalville area to take part in the Great War of 1914-18. Most enrolled in August 1914 and left for training on October 30th 1914. They trained at High Tor in Charnwood and Loughborough, then travelled to Southampton to take the steamer to France. Of the 50 volunteer soldiers, 22 returned. Each geocache commemorating a true volunteer soldier. Edgar Ewart Boot was born in 1894 in Coalville and lived on 43 Park Road. He played football for Christ Church. He survived the war and returned to his job as a clerk at Staplefords Wagon works. He died in March 1970. He was created by forest way Special School for the Famous 50 exhibition This cache was placed by 1st Britannia Scout Group with the permission of the owner. The GAGB are coordinating this series.
