Geocache Description:

Trail Of The Whispering Giants

"Junaluska" by Peter Wolf Toth"

With Treebird and Hotwheel1 and our back-up GPS, the trusty old Magellan Trailblazer XL

The coordinates for Junaluska located in Johnson City, Tennessee, are posted above. He is dedicated to the Native Americans of Tennessee. Junaluska, dedicated November 29, 1986, was the 55th sculpture on the Trail of the Whispering Giants, and carved from a Chestnut Oak tree donated by Claude Lutrell. Team Commissar discovered Junaluska by accident while Geocaching for a "scrapbook store" nearby...

When Team Commissar stumbled on Junaluska by Peter Wolf Toth, I thought this would make a neat virtual cache but when I did some background research, it was clear to me that this was worthy of something better!

Below is an excerpt from the home page…

”Peter Wolf Toth is best known as a 'humanitarian' artist with a dream to honor the Native Americans by creating a giant Indian statue in each 50 states. Since beginning his mission "with hammer and chisel" in 1971, Peter has donated 67 Whispering Giants (20 to 40 feet tall) in all 50 U.S. States and Canada. Peter's giant statues are prominently displayed in parks, on museum grounds, Indian Reservations, Interstate Welcome centers, and library and courthouse lawns.”

The goal is to log each of the statues on the “Trail Of The Whispering Giants” ONCE, with pictures and any other information you can share about your find and your experience getting there…

Remember only one log per Geocacher, and only one log per statue!

Please include the following at a minimum to get credit for the find:

Statue Name and Number or information confirming it is a Whispering Giant

and all of the following

Statue Coordinates

City and State

Picture of you or a team member with the statue and your GPS!

Good Luck, and enjoy!
