Foot Bridge: Meridian State Park Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

oneoldman: This cache is being temporarily disabled. The highway department is landscaping around this intersection and have taken down the historical marker. I suppose they will return it when the work is completed. Then the cache can be opened again.

Geocache Description:

A virtual multi-cache that begins near Meridian, Texas.

1. N31° 54.960 / W097° 39.906

Many locales around central Texas claim to have been "on" the Chisholm trail. It seems likely that all drovers did not follow the exact same trail as others. This would have allowed fresh grass for the many herds that were being driven north. Part one of this cache begins with a historical monument. Find the year that Bosque County was formally created. Add the year xxxx to the numbers that follow.

N31° 51.826 + x.xxx / W097° 40.501 + x.xxx

2. The resulting coordinates should take you to a foot bridge inside Meridian State Park. Get a trail map from the park office as you enter. The trail is not well marked and may be overgrown in places! Park near the Bee Ledge Overlook. From the overlook take the trail to the right near the edge of the ledge for a couple hundred feet until it turns down the hill. Follow the trail and your GPSr until you reach the footbridge. Tell me something interesting or unusual about the bridge as evidence that you were here. Email your answer to oneoldman@ev1.net. Virtual cache rules apply.

If you have not already gone under the Bee Ledge Overlook be sure to do that before you leave the park. Thirty years ago when my kids were young we came to this park at least once each year and we always made a visit to the "Bee Caves." The bees were quite active then but now it seems that vandals have destroyed their honeycomb and caused them to move out.
