Geocachers zien altijd dingen die anderen niet zien :)
Maar soms kunnen Geocachers objecten toch niet zien..
Deze kwestie kwam naar boven toen een teamlid vanaf de bovenste verdieping van het kantoorgebouw “De Rotterdam” naar buiten keek. Dit locatie van dit gebouw is N51.54.403 E004.29.292 en 156m boven zeeniveau. Wat een fantastisch uitzicht! Maar hoe ver kun je eigenlijk zien?
Het volstaat niet om een cirkel rondom het gebouw te tekenen. Je moet namelijk rekening houden met de kromming van de aarde. Dit houdt in dat de aarde over 1km vanaf je standpunt ongeveer 8cm naar beneden buigt. De zichtlimiet die hierdoor wordt veroorzaakt, heet de horizon.
Maar dat is niet het enige. De zichtlimiet wordt ook beinvloed door de vorm en textuur van de aarde en door allerlei obstakels die boven de horizon uitsteken dankzij hun lengte.
Gelukkig is daar internet!
Wij vonden een website die dit precies berekent.
Zoek uit of je onderstaande coordinaten in theorie zou kunnen zien, als je bovenop het gebouw “De Rotterdam” zou staan.

But sometimes even Geocachers cannot see certain objects.
One of our team works in the office building “The Rotterdam” on the top floor. It is situated N51.54.403 E004.29.292 and 156m above sea level. Wow, what a view! But the question is: How far can you see?
We wanted to calculate our maximum visibility, but that was difficult due to the curvature of the earth. In short, this means that the earth bends about 8 cm down per km from your point of view. This visibility limit is called the horizon.
But that is not the only factor. The view is also influenced by the shape and texture of the earth and obstacles that protrude above the horizon due to their length. The further away you are from the earth's surface, the further you can see.
Fortunately, the Internet has all the answers...
