Celebrating the British Paralympian Ellie Simmoms OBE, a Fantastic Female chosen by students at Stephenson Studio School Coalville. Eleanor May Simmons was born on 11th November 1994 and is a British Paralympian swimmer competing in S6 events. She came to national attention when she competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, winning two gold medals for Great Britain, despite being the youngest member of the team, at the age of 13. She went on later that year to win BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. She then became the youngest person to be awarded the MBE in the 2009 New years honours list. In 2012, she was again selected for the Great British squad, this time swimming at her home games in London. She won another two gold medals, including setting a World Record in the 400 m Freestyle. Then in 2013 she was elevated to OBE for services to the Paraylmpic sport. She went on to compete at the Rio Paralympics in 2016, winning another Gold medal and this time setting another World Record for the 200 m medley. This cache is placed just of a popular footpath that runs behind the Hermitage Leisure Centre in Whitwick.
