Are you tired of sitting around the fireplace sipping mulled wine, kale chips and quinoa dip watching the Super Bowl commercials and the snow fall? Did you miss the Pink Tie Party and National Cherry Blossom Festival's Petalpalooza because you had to pick up your monthly craft brewery or winery monthly allotments, or perhaps waiting for your human TB tattoo to heal? Not to worry, do we have a fun time for you: the NOVAGO's 2019 Evento de Primavera del Cinco de Mayo. Besides exciting food and drink selections, you could venture into the nearby “forest” to find caches while navigating around wild insects, irritating newly emerging flora, and perhaps some Virginia fauna. So don your favorite sombrero and head out to Claude Moore Park for a frolicking time.
While not the Academy Awards, the event will include a ceremony where awards will be presented to the 2018 NoVAGO “Best of the Best” caches, photos, logs, rookies, volunteer and other geocaching things out standing in their fields. Of course a lot people come just for the fabulous drawing (all you have to do is buy little red pieces of paper with long numbers on them to be eligible to win). Who knows you might win a GPSMAP 8624 Multifunction Display Unit; but don’t hold your breath.
As usual there will be food and non-alcoholic beverages. The hamburgers, hot dogs, agua, and all of the supplies required to start and maintain BBQ fires will be provided by NoVAGO. Depho, NoVAGO’s renowned teppanyaki chef might even be there to put on a show for us.
Other extremely important information
This is a potluck lunch event. Even though NoVAGO will provide the hamburgers and hot dogs, the rest of the food is potluck, provided by event attendees—you! No dish, dessert or drink will get turned away except leftovers from "SURVIVOR18: Eating Challenge!" all food is welcome! It would be nice if you could include in your “will attend” log what you intend to bring so we don’t end up with 100 pounds of Ghost Pepper flavored Cheetos.
Lawn chairs, blankets, etc. should be considered in case we all can't fit under the pavilion.
If you bring Travel Bugs, please exchange them with other attendees rather than leave them on a table for trading. There will be one of those ubiquitous left over plastic containers used to hold overly processed meat and muddy soggy logs and SWAG sitting on the table next to the event log book where you can leave those TBs you’ve gotten tired of dragging around that must be dropped at the event. Nothereeither will be scarf them up and take them with him across the pond later in the month.
Feel free to take photos during the event and add them to your logs!
Please retrieve your belongings from in and around the shelter by 2:00 PM. We will be cleaning up the area at this time and cannot ensure these items will be left undisturbed afterwards.
