Geocache Description:

English description

Poiščite letnico prve omembe bloških smučarjev in seštejte njene števke (vrednost A).

ZELENICA

Poišči datum prve smučarske tekme v Tržiču in seštej števke v njem (vrednost C).

BOJAN KRIŽAJ, NAŠ JUNAK IN ZMAGOVALEC

Kontrolna vsota: A + B + C + D + E + X = 91

Ključavnico odklenemo po formuli:

C * E * ( X + B ) + A * X + D + 1 = YYYY

Brezplačni ogledi muzeja in razstav: 8. februar – državni kulturni praznik, 18. maj – mednarodni dan muzejev, 3. sobota v juniju – Poletna muzejska noč, 3. december – Ta veseli dan kulture.

As its name indicates, the Gorenjska region is distinguished by mountains (gore means mountains). People of Gorenjska have always lived in close connection with mountains, which is evident from their culture and their past, preserved in museums. Stories from the mountains are a part of the history we share, which can be found in the museums.

Škofja Loka Museum presents Lubnik mountain and items from the Copper Age, Intermunicipal Museum Kamnik introduces Alpine dairy farming and life at Velika planina, Tržič Museum highlights the ski competition at Zelenica, Museum of Apiculture in Radovljica presents breeding stations which are located on the way to the Roblekov dom mountain hut on Mt. Begunjščica, Museum of Gorenjska in Kranj pays tribute to the 40th anniversary of the first Slovenian ascent of Mount Everest, the preparation of which took place at Jošt mountain in Kranj, the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana with its exhibition Mountain Paradise invites visitors to reflect upon our past and present attitude to mountains, which can be internalized on Golica mountain. By May 2020, mountains and museums will become a treasure of adventure!

Skiing is paradise on earth

The coordinates will place you at the Slovenian Skiing Museum in Tržič, where you will find the cache at the reception. It is locked with a combination lock and to get the right combination you will need to find the answers to some questions, all of which can be answered by a visit of the permanent exhibition Smuk! (Let’s Ski!).

Before you enter the museum and sign the logbook, you have to get a key information for the calculation at the Dvorišče virtual stage. Go to the virtual stage Dvorišče and take a look to northwest. There is a house with a white facade. Count how many stone pillars on the balcony support its roof. You get value X. To get the missing values from A to E, you will need to answer some questions. We recommend you see the exhibition. There is no need for interaction with the museum staff.

SKIERS ON THE BLOKE PLATEAU
Skis were known as a means of transport on the Bloke Plateau and in the nearby hills around Sveti Vid. They allowed people to move across the snow and transport goods (water, firewood, wooden products). Special funeral skis were used to transport the deceased in a coffin to the graveyard. Skiing on the Bloke Plateau as a way of moving with skis in heavy snow was recorded already by Johann Weikhard von Valvasor in his work titled The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, which makes Bloke the cradle of skiing in middle Europe. To get value A, find the year when the skiers on the Bloke Plateau were first mentioned in writing and sum up its digits.

ZELENICA
Zelenica has always been a popular point for mountaineering, and today it is a paradise for backcountry skiers. The ski lift, built in 1965, operated until 2012. It was manufactured by Metalna Maribor. During the ride, skiers ascended 462 meters to 1538 meters above sea level. Some seats of the single chairlift from Zelenica are kept by the Slovenian Skiing Museum. To get value B, count the seats at the exhibition.

SKIING IN TRŽIČ
Skiing began in Tržič at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, under the influence of the Austro-Hungarians. Two of the important pioneers of skiing were former members of the Austro-Hungarian army Anton Jelenc and Anton Seljak. The winner of the first ski competition in Tržič was Avgust Primožič. To get value C, find the date of the first ski competition in Tržič and sum up its digits.

BOJAN KRIŽAJ, OUR HERO AND WINNER
Bojan Križaj is one of the most successful Slovenian alpine skiers of all time. The Slovenian Skiing Museum keeps his greatest awards, including the small crystal globe for the season's best slalom runner, the World Championship silver medal and eight World Cup gold medals. As a young skier, Križaj hit his first top three podium in the World Cup race in Madonna di Campiglio in 1977. What bib number (value D) did Križaj wear in Madonna di Campiglio?

SLOVENIA, A LAND OF SKIING
Slovenia is a land of winter sports. Many of our skiers are world-renowned and celebrate victories every year. The last room of the exhibition in the Slovenian Skiing Museum, “the slalom of the famous”, is dedicated to our best skiers. How many of the best Slovenian skiers are presented in the slalom of the famous (value E)?

Checksum: A + B + C + D + E + X = 91

Unlock the combination lock by using the formula:

C * E * ( X + B ) + A * X + D + 1 = YYYY
