Amália da Piedade Rebordão Rodrigues, mais conhecida como Amália Rodrigues ou popularmente como Amália, era uma atriz e fadista portuguesa. Conhecida como a Rainha do Fado, Amália foi fundamental na popularização do fado em todo o mundo e viajou internacionalmente ao longo da sua carreira. Tornou-se uma das figuras mais importantes durante o renascimento do Fado no século XX e foi uma das principais fadistas femininas durante seus 50 anos de carreira de gravação e palco. Amália continua a ser uma figura icónica e de inspiração para outros artistas do fado e da música popular. Está sepultada no Panteão Nacional, entre os portugueses ilustres.

O artista Alexandre Farto, de nome artístico Vhils, criou o rosto de Amália em colaboração com a Escola de Calceteiros de Lisboa, e os calceteiros da Câmara Municipal da capital. A obra teve dois a três meses de preparação, mais quatro semanas de trabalho dos calceteiros e foi o primeiro trabalho de Vhils aplicado à técnica de calçada portuguesa.
Desafiado pelo realizador português Ruben Alves para criar a capa do disco “Amália, As Vozes do Fado”, Vhils abraçou o projeto de criar uma “onda do mar que começa no chão e sobe a parede, para que a chuva faça chorar as pedras da calçada quando a água correr”.

Known as the 'Rainha do Fado' ("Queen of Fado"), Amália was instrumental in popularising fado worldwide and travelled internationally throughout her career. She became one of the most important figures during the genre's revival in the twentieth century and was a leading female fadista during her 50-year recording and stage career. Rodrigues remains an iconic figure and inspiration to other fado and popular music artists. Amália remains the best-selling Portuguese artist in history.

The artist Alexandre Farto, Vhils artistic name, created the face of Amália in collaboration with the School of Calceteiros of Lisbon. The work had two to three months of preparation, plus four weeks of work. It was the first work of Vhils applied to the technique of Portuguese sidewalk.
Challenged by the Portuguese director Ruben Alves to create the cover of the album "Amália, Voices of Fado", Vhils embraced the project of creating a "wave of the sea that begins on the ground and climbs the wall, so that the rain makes the sidewalk cry when the water runs. "
