Geocache Description:


This virtual has been set as part of the Virtual Rewards 2.0 series, a limited release of 4000 caches worldwide.

The timing of the release of these rewards has coincided nicely with the WW2 D Day 75 anniversary for the Operation Overlord celebration and remembrance ceremonies that are taking place around Europe and beyond.

My home town of Gosport played a major part in this event and Hardway was one of the main embarkation points where 1000’s of service personnel departed for the Normandy beaches, many never to return, so I feel this is a poignant and timely way to show my respect to those that fought and those that fell in order that we might live in freedom today.

At the given location you will find the memorial to Operation Overlord D Day landings please email me through geocaching.com with answers to the following information:-

1. To commemorate which anniversary of D Day was this memorial placed.
2. From what type of structure was this stone removed and what was the cause of the original structure being destroyed.
3. From which city was this stone transported in order to form part of this memorial.
4. What date was the stone dedicated.
5. Who attended the dedication ceremony?
