About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath-taking view. It’s a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website.
About Cemetery Station No 3 Rookwood
This is the second station opened in Rookwood Cemetery and was first known as Mortuary Terminus. It was opened on 26 May 1897.
The name was changed from Mortuary Terminus on 26 July 1897 to Cemetery Station No. 3 on 15 June 1908. The station was closed on 29 December 1948. The station was originally the terminus until the line was again extended to Mortuary Station Number 4 in 1908.
If you have visited GC7YCX0C REALLY SideTracked – Cemetery Station No 1 Rookwood, you will have learned something about the history of the Mortuary Railway to Rookwood Cemetery.
The station did have a permanent building which had been the waiting room to Mortuary Station No 1. The station was originally the terminus until the line was again extended to Cemetery Station Number 4 in 1908.
Look for a picture of the platform as well as an aerial photograph from 1943 from SIX maps.
