Geocache Description:

This is a short and easy two stage multi cache placed to highlight some of the rich history of the local area.

The posted coordinates will take you to two murals, one on each side of the street, which highlight the area's mining and lumbering industries.  The mural on the north side of the street depicts the Gogebic Range's past mining industry while the mural on the south side of the street depicts the Gogebic Range's past lumbering industry.  While underground mining for iron ore and copper no longer take place in the area, the logging industry continues to flourish today.

The murals at the posted coordinates are actually the second set of murals painted at this location by former Hurley Elementary School art students under the direction of then Hurley Elementary School Art Instructor, Teresa Davis.  The silhouettes of the children in the murals depict the students who were in the art class when this mural was painted. Unfortunately, I can't remember the year this particular pair of murals was painted.

The final can be found at:

N 46 26.ABC

W 090 10.DEF

To obtain the final coordinates for the north please refer to the mining mural on the north side of the street.

A = The total number of people painted on the north side of the road minus 7.

B = The number of empty ore cars on the north side of the road.

C = The number of full ore cars on the north side of the road.

To obtain the final coordinates for the west please refer to the lumbering mural on the south side of the street.

D = Facing the mural, the number of uncut trees located among the tree stumps to the left of the river plus 1.

E = Facing the mural, the number of children to the left of the lamp post minus 3.

F = The number of logs floating down the river (be sure to count the partial log in the upper left hand corner of the river) minus 7.
