THE GRAVEYARD OF THE PACIFIC AND THE COLUMBIA RIVER BAR
At the mouth of the Columbia River sits the particularly dangerous Columbia Bar. This sandbar is about 3 miles wide and reaches about 6 miles into the ocean. This navigational nightmare has claimed over 2,000 vessels and 700 lives since 1792.
The mouth of the Columbia has a worldwide reputation. US Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment responds to hundreds of calls a year in these dangerous waters. This Coast Guard station is also home to the National Motor Lifeboat School.
The Construction of the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse (1856) and the North Head Lighthouse (1898) reduced the number of shipwrecks that occur at the mouth of the Columbia River. These lighthouses are staffed 24/7 and remain in operation to this day.
Since this cache is a wherigo, you will need to download the cartridge. You can download the cartridge HERE
A couple of things to remember with the wherigo player apps. When you see a question mark, you may not see the question. Scroll down the screen to see the question. Dont worry, the question IS there. The cartridge plays best on the Android and Apple wherigo apps. Its always a good idea to have a near full smart phone battery when playing a cartridge. This wherigo cartridge is fairly short and should not take more than an hour to complete. The cartridge will guide you to the cache and a hint will be provided once you are at GZ.
This Cache is on a business property with the owners approval. Hints are provided at the end of the cartridge. Additional in the hints on this cache page. This is not meant to be a difficult cache to find.
