SAN ANGELO POP ART MUSEUM
Located at 125 W. Twohig, the San Angelo Pop Art Museum opened on October 29, 2019. The building that once stood at the location was built in 1946 as a bowling center. Six years later it was struck by lightning, rebuilt three years later as the San Angelo Bowl, and renamed Star Lanes in 1959. The building’s remains stood empty for years, until a local nonprofit called Art in Uncommon Places began construction of the open air museum. Forty local artists contributed to the display, including a piece that weighs over 350 pounds and another made by six teenagers at the Juvenile Detention Center.
