WELCOME TO WARWICKSHIRE!
St Nicholas' Park
Saturday 30th May 2020
12PM - 3PM
It's time to celebrate!
On the 3rd of May 2000, back in the days when I was wearing nappies and playing with a Thomas the Tank Engine toy set, an American man named Dave Ulmer placed a container in Oregon, USA. He posted the coordinates online and Geocaching was born! Now, a mear twenty years down the line, over three million of these geocaches have been placed in almost every country across the globe. That's truely amazing!
In January, I was sat in a burger resturant in Geneva, Switzerland when I opened my e-mail and to my delight, I had received the honor to host a Community Celebration Event. I'm not sure what was tastier, the burger or the excitement of bringing this event to the heart of Warwickshire.
This event is for everyone. Geocaching has given me so much since I started back in 2012. It's helped me keep somewhat in shape, encouraged me to travel more and it has taken me to some pretty amazing places that I never thought I'd lay eyes on in a million years. Geocaching has also helped me through tough and personal times. But lastly, it's given me so many amazing friends who I'm grateful to have in my life. Today, it's time to pay tribute to Geocaching. Here, in the beautiful St Nick's Park, we shall gather to celebrate 20 years of this hobby that we all love and enjoy!
So what's going on?
At this event, we are going to have a picnic. Quiet simple really. We shall meet at the listed coordinates and we shall share food, drink, laughs, trackables and fond memories of all things caching. It doesn't matter if you've been caching twenty years or twenty minutes. Everyone has a story to tell!
Of course, I can't provide food to feed the whole world. Don't be alarmed, I am bringing food to share with everyone, but you are also encouraged to bring stuff either for yourself or to share as well. You don't have to eat or bring food to sign the logbook though. You'll just have to swim the River Avon for it instead! (I'm kidding).
Next up, we have prizes! AHHHH! Food and free stuff? Now you're talking! Yes, that's right, all attendees will be given a raffle ticket upon signing the log book. All the prizes will be geocaching related items from containers to geocoins. Plus a special prize draw for the First to Find of the event. To be in this draw, you must log a Will Attend note by 9:00AM on the event day. Below is a list of times when the draw will take place.
12PM: Event Opens
1:30PM: Raffle & FTF Draw
3PM: Event Finishes
If you wish to stay longer to eat and drink and chat, you are more than welcome to do so.
But what if it rains?
Never fear. This time of year, we should expect beautiful sunshine. However, if we do get a spot of rain, we will simply move a couple of meters into the shelter listed in the waypoints below and huddle like penguins.
Parking is listed below in the waypoints. Sadly, it isn't free but it isn't really expensive either compaired to other places! If you're due to travel in by rail then the train station is a 15 minute walk away, this is also listed in the way points. The station has frequent services to both Birmingham and London. It is also well connected to Leamington Spa which offers further services across the nation.
That's about it! See you there!
I look forward to seeing you all here to celebrate this wonderful anniversery of the hobby we all love. Don't forget to bring your trackables to swap & discover as well. All the best & Happy Caching! :)
