Please join us to celebrate the 20TH BIRTHDAY of Geocaching!
Event festivities include:
- O.C.B.* Chili Cook-off and Pot Luck (more below)
- Bean-bag toss (OK, it's cornhole, but can-of-corn isn't our theme!)
- 20, count 'em, 20 new caches to publish in the area, starting around noon
- Can of beans food drive (if you like, please bring a can of beans - any type - for donation to the local Simi Valley food pantry)
*O.C.B. - What is O.C.B.? Why, it's the Original Can of Beans! Way back on May 3rd of 2000, Dave Ulmer hid the first ever geocache, which he called a GPS stash. The contents of his black bucket included a can of beans - more specifically black-eyed peas, which are actually beans (genus Vigna) and not peas (genus Pisum). (To see a super cool video about all this by Dave Ulmer, click HERE.) The O.C.B. was salvaged from the original cache location in 2003 and is now a TRAVEL BUG taken care of by TEAM 360. (Now, the actual O.C.B. will not be at this event, but we will celebrate with beans in its honor.) To learn more about the rich history of the sport we love so much, click HISTORY.
Chili Cook-off - Team CaVaBean is going on record as entering a pot of chili in the cook-off. To enter your world famous chili, please message the CO or post in your Will Attend.
Pot luck - While we will provide drinks and chili fixin's (cheese, sour cream, onions, etc.) for those who post Will Attends, we also welcome any dishes you would like to share -- in particular, bean-themed ones! "You got yer bean dip, yer 3-bean salad, yer mashed garbanzo beans (aka hummus), yer green bean casserole, yer Boston baked beans..." you get the idea, Bubba. If you will be bringing something, THANK YOU and please message the CO or post in your Will Attend.
