Geocache Description:

To laiku telefoniem bija savdabīga konstrukcija.

This cache is dedicated to telephone and telephone communications. You will find the reason by guessing the mystery and finding the cache. Here are some interesting facts about the history of phones in Latvia.

The contract with the Bell telephone company stipulated that the first telephone line in Riga should be put into operation on July 1, 1882. Its number of subscribers was small at the beginning - 474 in 1888, and 1070 a year later. However, the establishment of the Riga telephone network facilitated the establishment of telephone networks and separate lines elsewhere in Latvia. Thus Sigulda telephone network was established in 1894, two years later Cesis, Valmiera, Valka, Limbazi and other regions of Latvia; after 2 years it came on Cesvaine side. Phones of that time had a peculiar design. The microphone was built into the case of the telephone so that the speaker had to crouch and bring the mouth closer to the microphone. Later, telephony developed at a rapid pace, and before World War II Latvia already had 81,000 subscriptions. Long distance calls originated in Latvia in 1883, when Riga subscribers were already able to connect with Mīlgrāvis, Bolderāja, Zemitāni and Šķirotava. The first foreign telephone connections in Latvia were opened on September 1, 1920 between Liepaja and Klaipeda.

In order to solve this mystery, you must look up some facts about the history of phones in the world.

ABCD - The year in which international telephone codes began to be used worldwide.

EFGH - The year the phone inventor was born.
