Church CITO at Southampton Cemetery Chapel
1000-1200 (approx)
Tuesday 10th March 2020
Hi guys! We've been invited back on Tuesday 10th March for some ground clearing work at the Old Southampton Cemetery, in the centre of the city. The main tasks will be cutting down ivy, brambles, small saplings & nettles from the graves. The site is maintained by volunteers from the Friends of Old Southampton Cemetery, who have been generous enough to host us again for the morning.
There will be the usual opportunities to exchange trackables and as this event has an official CM number, it will count toward your CM stats..
This cache also falls during Cache In Trash Out®, Season 1: March 1 through May 31, so you will be able to earn a CITO 2020 Season 1 souvenir by attending.
We’ll meet at the published coordinates just before 10am - these are the old cemetery gates at the end of Cemetery Road. I’m informed that parking is free there for 4 hours. At 10am there will be a briefing by Bill, and then we’ll work through to approximately 1200 before stopping for refreshments.
Bill will happily provide more information, and if requested a brief tour, about the interesting history of this historic cemetery.
IMPORTANT:
1. Please bring your own gloves.
2. Please indicate your ‘will attend’
...so we have an idea of numbers and you will receive any updates to proceedings. Experience has shown this is often the case!
Parking
Bill advises that parking is available along Cemetery Road, and it is free for 4 hours. We will meet at the cemetery gates, at the end of the road at the published coordinates.
How
Bill and Val from the Friends of Old Southampton Cemetery will be on hand to provide guidance and equipment. Unfortunately, they cannot provide gloves, so if you need them please bring them. Please also consider wearing appropriate clothing and sensible footwear. All other equipment will be provided. There will be appropriate tasks for almost any ability level.
"If the weather the day before states wet and windy the main event will be cancelled," but I will arrange for an impromptu litterpick in the same area of the Common.
Health and Safety
All health and safety rules apply. Children will need supervision and pets kept under control.
