10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Sarzotti Park Picnic Area 2
510 Park Street Ojai, Ca. 93023
On May 2, 2000, at approximately midnight Greenwich Mean Time, the great blue switch* controlling selective availability was pressed. Twenty-four satellites around the globe processed their new orders, and the accuracy of GPS technology improved tenfold. Now, said the White House, anyone could "precisely pinpoint their location or the location of items (such as game) left behind for later recovery." How right they were. History of Geocaching
Join us as we celebrate the twentieth Anniversary of geocaching with a fun event at Sarzotti Park in Ojai. It will be a day of fun and games. I suspect that there will also be a couple of geocaches publishing around 1:30 p.m.
Children of all ages and well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome. I am suggesting a $2.00 donation to help defray the cost of the facility.
10:30 to 11:00
We will be creating five or six-person teams (or bring your own), introducing the games, and explaining the scoring. If you don't want to compete, that's great, spectators and judges are always welcome.
11:00 to noon
We will play five different games. Points will be awarded for the first, second, and third-place teams in each game. The team with the highest point value at the end of the day will be declared "2020 Ojai GeoGames Champions".
Noon to 12:30 pm
Awards Ceremony, clean-up and make "after event plans"
Examples of Possible Games
The Bison Roll Relay:
The first team member opens the bison tube, signs the log with 5-characters, puts the log back into the bison tube, closes it and hands it to the next team member to repeat the process. Points are awarded for first, second and third place teams. (Scoring is subject to change based on the number of attendees and teams)
The Bison Roll Sprint Relay:
- The first team member retrieves the bison tube
- The second team member who opens it and removes the log
- The third team member signs and rolls the log
- The fourth team member replaces the log and closes the bison tube
- The fifth team member returns the bison tube to the start
Reverse "Top Trumps" Geocaching Game:
This is a card game from Britain that is similar to War but uses geocaching stats to determine who "wins" the hand. For Round 1, the cards go to the players whose card has the highest "Total Finds". For Round 2, each hand is "won" by the card that has the most "Total Hides". For each round, players move down the list.
THE TWIST: The goal is to get rid of your cards. The first team that runs out of cards wins.
This event is a work in progress, so please log your Will Attend so you will receive any and all Announcements. The time and place WILL NOT change.
