Welcome to the "famous" Cock Hotel in Stony Stratford, "The Jewel of Milton Keynes".
Why is it famous? You've probably heard of the old phrase "Cock and Bull" and often thought of it as a polite way of swearing. Well, its a little more sanitary than that!
There is no profanity, but the phrase is reportedly related to the stories that used to pass between the coaching inns "The Cock" (tonight's venue) and "The Bull", which is just down the road. The Cock and The Bull were two of the main coaching inns in the town, being sited on the busy former roman road the A5, and the banter and rivalry between groups of travellers is said to have resulted in exaggerated and fanciful stories, which became known as 'cock and bull stories'.
Thats how the tales go, and if you want to get out of Stony Stratford, I'd recommend you agree with the locals.
